This policy applies to all users of the Beetle platform, including:
- Customers who use Beetle Customer to browse stores and order products.
- Drivers who use Beetle Driver to accept and complete delivery jobs.
- Shop Owners who use Beetle Shop to manage their stores and request deliveries.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account Information (All Users)
- Full name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Profile picture
- Account password (stored encrypted)
2.2 Driver-Specific Information
When you register as a driver, we collect additional verification documents to comply with Tanzanian transport regulations:
- National ID (NIDA) number
- Passport-size photo
- Driver's licence image
- Police clearance certificate
- LATRA licence document
- Vehicle registration document
- Vehicle registration number and model
- Vehicle type (motorcycle, bajaj, car, van, truck)
2.3 Location Data
- Drivers: We collect precise GPS location continuously while you are online and actively delivering. This is used to match you with nearby delivery requests, provide turn-by-turn navigation, and share your live location with the relevant shop owner during active deliveries.
- Customers & Shop Owners: We collect location when you use map features (setting pickup/drop-off points). We do not track your location in the background.
2.4 Transaction and Delivery Data
- Delivery request details (pickup/drop-off address, package description, price)
- Order history
- Earnings records (drivers)
- Tracking codes
- Delivery timestamps and statuses
2.5 Communication Data
- In-app messages between users
- Ratings and reviews you submit about drivers
- Complaints and support requests
2.6 Device and Technical Data
- Device type and operating system version
- App version
- Push notification tokens (for delivery alerts)
- Crash logs and error reports (used only for debugging)
2.7 Payment Information
We do not store your payment card details. Payment processing, where applicable, is handled by mobile money operators. We only store transaction references and amounts.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Verify driver identity and eligibility per Tanzanian regulations
- Match delivery requests with available drivers
- Provide real-time GPS navigation and live tracking
- Send order and delivery status notifications
- Calculate delivery fees based on distance and vehicle type
- Generate earnings reports for drivers
- Manage ratings and complaints
- Prevent fraud and enforce our Terms of Service
- Improve the platform through anonymised usage analysis
- Respond to support requests
- Comply with applicable Tanzanian law
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for targeted advertising.
4. Location Data
Beetle Driver requires access to your device location at all times while you are marked "online" because the core function of the app — receiving and completing delivery requests — depends on knowing your position in real time.
Specifically:
- Location is collected in the foreground when you are using the app.
- Location is collected in the background only while an active delivery is in progress, to update your position on the live tracking map visible to the shop owner.
- Location collection stops as soon as you go offline or complete/cancel the delivery.
You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings, but doing so will prevent the Driver app from functioning.
Beetle Customer and Beetle Shop access location only when you interact with map features and do not use background location.
5. Sharing of Information
We share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Between platform users: When a driver accepts a delivery request, their name, contact number, vehicle details, and live location are shared with the relevant shop owner. The shop owner's store name and contact are shared with the assigned driver.
- Service providers: We use Appwrite (our backend provider) and Google Maps (navigation). These providers process data under their own privacy policies and do not use your data for any other purpose.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by Tanzanian law, a court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Safezone Tech, our users, or the public.
- Business transfer: In the event of a merger or acquisition, data may be transferred to the successor entity, subject to the same privacy protections.
6. Data Retention
- Active accounts: We retain your data for as long as your account is active.
- Delivery records: Kept for 2 years for dispute resolution and earnings records.
- Driver verification documents: Kept for the duration of the driver's active registration plus 1 year.
- Deleted accounts: Data is deleted within 30 days of account deletion, except where retention is required by law.
- Location history: Driver route data for completed deliveries is retained for 90 days then anonymised.

7. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:
- All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.
- Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.
- Access to user data is restricted to authorised personnel only.
- Verification documents are stored in secure, access-controlled cloud storage.
- Our backend infrastructure is hosted on servers with regular security audits.
While we take all reasonable precautions, no system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.
8. Children's Privacy
The Beetle platform is intended for users aged 18 years and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we become aware that a child under 18 has provided us with personal data, we will delete it immediately. If you believe a child has registered with our services, please contact us.
9. Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Withdrawal of consent: Withdraw consent for location or notification permissions via your device settings at any time.
